The 30th anniversary of the ERS International Congress, taking place on 7–9 September, 2020, will be an innovative and interactive virtual event. Our annual congress is a showcase of excellence across the entire field of respiratory medicine, and ERS is committed to supporting the respiratory community to connect, share the latest scientific data and access educational opportunities during these challenging times.
Message from the President
Dear colleagues and friends,
We sincerely hope that you are in good health and coping as well as possible with the unprecedented challenges from COVID-19.
The current situation is impacting not only our daily practice, but also our personal lives, and affecting a full range of things that we otherwise take for granted. We find ourselves having to adapt day-by-day.
One of the challenges ERS is facing is the delivery of a safe and effective ERS International Congress.
We do believe that the ERS International Congress should still take place this year and that it could be more important than ever for us to connect the respiratory community, share data and science, and to provide educational opportunities.
We will draw from our experiences of delivering successful virtual events and learning opportunities, to create an innovative format for our Congress – using the latest technology to support this. The schedule will remain under the same timeframe and full details of the format will be announced as soon as possible, but we can confirm at this time that a large part of our Congress programme and the technical exhibition will be digital.
We reassure you and the wider respiratory community that now, more than ever, ERS is supporting respiratory professionals worldwide during these challenging times, with future positive outcomes in mind.
Yours,
Prof. Thierry Troosters
