Support for Derby Hospitals Charitable Trust with ICU Garden Appeal

Dräger, an international company in the field of medical and safety technology, has assisted Derby Hospitals Charitable Trust with their fundraising for an ICU Garden to give their patients access to the great outdoors.

The charity appeal is currently underway and will enable the adaptation of Courtyard 13, a garden area which is situated just outside the Intensive Care Unit at Derby Hospital. Staff are hoping that once adapted they will be able to take patients recovering from critical illness away from the hustle and bustle of intensive care into a peaceful environment, whilst still remaining in close proximity to the unit.

Patient rehabilitation plans will be adapted to incorporate visits to the ICU Garden, which the staff feel would greatly aid the recovery process.

The hospital estimates a cost of £6,000 to transform the area to meet the needs of the patients, and staff have already started their own fundraising efforts such as cake sales, raffles and sponsored events to help the cause.

When approached, Dräger sent the request to it’s Good Causes Committee who meet monthly and discuss the charitable requests that have come in from customers and employees alike. A decision was made to award a financial donation to this worthy cause.

Lesley Youren, Marketing Manager for Respiratory Care states: “I am so pleased that Dräger could assist Derby Hospitals Charitable Trust with its request to help critically ill patients on their road to recovery. Dräger products are designed with the best possible patient outcomes in mind, so this appeal really suited our company ethos and guiding principle. We look forward to hearing about how it has helped patients in the future.”
