The editorial board of JAP congratulates one of its board members Cyprian Mendonca on his selection as the AAGBI Featherstone Professor 2016.
Cyprian is a consultant anaesthetist at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. His academic interest involves medical education and airway management. Showing a sustained commitment to medical education, he has published five exam preparation books in anaesthesia over a period of four years from 2007–2011 and two books for medical students. He has taken a lead role in both undergraduate and post graduate education in the Trust and Warwick Medical school. He organises the Coventry Airway Management course, SMART anaesthesia course and has helped set up the state of the art Coventry Airway Lab which provides more than 40 advanced airway-training sessions every year. He is actively involved in airway research and has published several papers in the peer-reviewed journals.
The AAGBI’s Featherstone Professorship, is awarded to practising clinicians and scientists who have made a substantial contribution to anaesthesia and its related subspecialties in the fields of safety, education, research, innovation, international development, leadership, or a combination of these. Featherstone Professorships are held for two years, during which the holder will be required to deliver a Featherstone Oration at a major AAGBI meeting.
