5-7 October 2022, Difficult Airway Society Annual Scientific Meeting; Newcastle

Welcome note from the Difficult Airway Society:

On behalf of the Local Organising Committee, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to the long-awaited Difficult Airway Society 2022 Annual Scientific Meeting, to be held as a face-to-face event in the cosmopolitan and neighbouring Northern cities of Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead.

This event will bring together world-leading and pioneering experts from a wide range of backgrounds. From academics and clinical experts, to trade and business partners, all will be present to facilitate networking, sharing and learning across all aspects of modern airway management.

Highlights of the meeting will include:

  • First ever live awake tracheal intubation from Guy’s Hospital London to the Sage Newcastle

  • Dedicated paediatric sessions including multidisciplinary case discussion of a difficult airway

  • Management of blast injuries presented by combat experienced military medical professionals

  • Role-based breakout sessions for nurses, ODPs, paramedics and others

  • Airway workshops including physicians airway simulation, paediatric airway and specific workshops for clinical staff groups

  • Confirmed speakers including Prof Karim Brohi, Prof Tim Cook, Prof Ellen O’Sullivan, Prof Patrick Schoettker, Dr Imran Ahmed and Dr Andy Higgs

Here in the North East, we know all too well the importance of social events to facilitate nascent professional relationships and networks. To this end, we will be offering a packed and perfectly curated social programme to include:

  • Complimentary welcome drinks reception at the Sage, Gateshead – a world-famous musical performance venue with unique architectural flair

  • Annual Gala Dinner at the Great North Museum: Hancock, to include a drinks reception and a three course culinary experience to be enjoyed with live music and dancing into the night
